OneDrive Full of Duplicate Files? Here’s a Practical Way to Clean It Up

I have been noticing that duplicate files can quietly become a problem in OneDrive, especially when the same folders are used across multiple computers or devices. Photos, documents, videos, backups, and shared files seem to get uploaded more than once over time. The difficult part is that manually checking every folder takes a lot of time, and it is easy to delete something that is actually the original file.

I was looking for a practical way to remove duplicate files from OneDrive without having to download everything to my computer first. From what I understand, the better approach is to scan the cloud storage directly and identify duplicate items before deciding what should be removed. This seems particularly useful for accounts containing a large number of folders and files.

Another thing I found interesting is the ability to review detected duplicates before deleting them. Having an option to preview files and selectively choose duplicates seems much safer than simply deleting everything with the same filename. Files can sometimes have similar names while having different content, so checking them before removal is important.

While researching different approaches, I came across the SysInfo OneDrive Duplicate File Finder. It supports scanning OneDrive folders for duplicate documents, images, videos, audio files, archives, and other data. It also appears to work with both Personal and Business OneDrive accounts. The Business account support could be useful for administrators dealing with multiple user accounts.

For anyone managing a large OneDrive account, another useful feature is the option to scan all folders and group duplicate files based on properties such as name, size, content, and file type. That can make the results easier to understand instead of showing one huge unorganized list.

I also like that there are different deletion choices. Some users may prefer to permanently delete unnecessary copies, while others may want to move them to the OneDrive bin first in case something needs to be restored.

Overall, I think the main benefit is reducing the amount of manual checking involved. Before using any duplicate remover, I would still recommend reviewing the detected files carefully, particularly in Business OneDrive accounts where shared or important documents may be involved. Once the unnecessary copies are identified, remove duplicates from OneDrive becomes much more manageable than checking hundreds of folders manually.
