I have seen users struggle with orphaned OST files after an Outlook profile is deleted, an Exchange account is decommissioned, or a Microsoft 365 subscription expires. The OST file may still exist on the local drive, but accessing its contents through the original Outlook profile is no longer straightforward.

In such situations, simply copying the OST file to another computer and opening it in Outlook may not work because OST files are associated with their original mailbox environment. Recreating the profile may also be impossible when the original account is no longer available.

One practical option is to use a standalone OST viewer that can read the local file without requiring an active Outlook, Exchange, or Microsoft 365 profile. The SysInfo OST Viewer Tool is designed for this purpose and supports orphaned, healthy, oversized, password-protected, and minorly corrupted OST files.

The software allows users to preview emails, attachments, contacts, calendars, notes, and tasks. Its six-tab preview includes Body, Attachments, Notes, Header, MIME, and Raw HTML, which can be helpful when checking message content and technical details before exporting data.

Another useful feature is the ability to search emails by sender, recipient, subject, and date range. Users can export the required mailbox data into PST, EML, MSG, PDF, MBOX, or CSV formats, depending on their needs. The demo version allows preview and export of up to 100 emails per folder, making it possible to evaluate the results first.

Before starting, I recommend working with a copy of the original OST file and verifying exported messages and attachments carefully.
